The story behind
In Still They Ride, Journey presents a piece that, although it didn't reach the highest positions on the charts like other tracks from the album Escape, has become a point of interest for those exploring the depth of their sound. The song, with a duration of 3 minutes and 50 seconds, is integrated into a discography that marked a before and after for the band. This album, released on July 17, 1981, not only reached the top of the popularity charts in the United States but was also certified Diamond in July 2021, recognizing over ten million copies sold in the country. This positioned it as Journey's most successful studio album, surpassed only by their compilation Greatest Hits.
The recording of Escape, and therefore of Still They Ride, featured the participation of Jonathan Cain as keyboardist, this being his first album with the band. The production was handled by Kevin Elson and Mike Stone, while the sound engineering was by Wally Buck and Kevin Elson. This album stood out for being the fifth best-selling of 1981, coming very close to Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna. The band, originally from San Francisco, California, and formed in 1973, was already known for its early eighties radio hits, including ballads like Faithfully and Open Arms, as well as more energetic tracks like Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' and Don't Stop Believin'.
