The story behind
Someday, according to DoReSol
When you dive into *Someday*, you encounter an energy that contrasts with the nostalgia of the lyrics. Despite talking about "the old days" and how things change, the music has an optimistic and upbeat pulse. It's one of those The Strokes tracks that makes you feel good. The song, written by Julian Casablancas, was released as the third and final single from their debut album, Is This It, in August 2002. It was a release that resonated, reaching number 17 on the US modern rock charts and number 27 in the UK.
The recording of Is This It, which includes *Someday*, took place at Transporterraum studio in New York during March and April 2001, with Gordon Raphael as producer. The idea was to capture a sound as direct as possible, without too many production layers. In fact, much of the album was built from live takes, seeking that raw essence. The music video for *Someday* is a good example of that vibe. It was directed by Roman Coppola and shows us the band in a bar, but also in a fun game of the TV show *Family Feud* against Guided by Voices. In that clip, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum even appear, who were part of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver. Beyond the music, the song has appeared in the 2006 film Click and in the soundtrack for Major League Baseball 2K8.
