The story behind
She's Got It, according to DoReSol
This song by Little Richard sounds like a party shout that never stops. The track kicks off with that electric piano that seems to bounce between notes, while Richard’s voice soars with a high-pitched, energetic tone, as if the whole world had to know that "she’s got it." The lyrics are simple but effective: they celebrate a woman who rules the game, and that direct message blends with a rhythm that never lets up. What’s most curious is that the original title was "I Got It," but it was changed for the movie The Girl Can't Help It, where Little Richard appears singing as Jayne Mansfield heads to the powder room. The result is a track that not only sounds great but also carries that air of spectacle that makes it unforgettable.
Recorded in October 1956, this song was an immediate hit on the Billboard charts, reaching number 9 on the R&B ranking. It was part of his debut album, Here's Little Richard, released by the label Specialty Records, and though it was initially issued as a single, it ended up as a classic that defined the sound of the era. Producer Robert Blackwell and composer John Marascalco worked alongside Richard to create something that sounded fresh yet rooted in the jump blues that inspired him early on. What’s interesting is that, beyond its commercial success, this song also became a bridge between rhythm and blues and the rock and roll that was about to arrive.
