The story behind
Scam, according to DoReSol
In the second studio album by Jamiroquai, titled The Return of the Space Cowboy, is the song Scam. This track, with a duration of 7:02, was arranged and produced by Jay Kay himself. The album itself marked a turning point for the band, reaching number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and selling approximately 4.5 million copies worldwide. Recording sessions for this work began in the first half of 1994, shortly after the success achieved with their previous album, Emergency on Planet Earth, and the associated tours.
Jamiroquai, formed in London in 1992, established itself as a reference within international funk and acid jazz, also fusing elements of disco and electronic music. The group, led by vocalist Jason "Jay" Kay, was initially composed of talents such as Toby Smith on keyboards, Stuart Zender on bass, Nick Van Gelder on drums, and Wallis Buchanan with the didgeridoo. Jamiroquai's proposal represented a revitalization of funk sound for the 1990s. The band's name is a combination of the Iroquois tribe, with which Kay identified, and the concept of "jam", referring to musical improvisation.
