The story behind
The song Postal de La Habana, with its 5 minutes and 23 seconds duration, immerses us in a narrative that evokes images and sensations typical of the Caribbean island. Although the title transports us directly to the Cuban capital, the lyrics and the atmosphere created by Joaquín Sabina suggest a more intimate and personal experience, a kind of letter or memory that unfolds before our ears. It is a theme that, beyond its explicit geography, speaks of memory, affections, and the trace we leave in places and people.
Joaquín Sabina, born in Úbeda, Jaén, in 1949, has built a prolific career in the world of Spanish music and poetry. His discography includes fourteen studio albums, as well as live recordings and compilations. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with a variety of artists, composing for others such as Ana Belén or Miguel Ríos. His live work has often been shared, as in La mandrágora (1981) with Javier Krahe and Alberto Pérez, or Joaquín Sabina y Viceversa en directo (1986) with the band Viceversa. He has also shared stages and recordings with Joan Manuel Serrat in La orquesta del Titanic (2012). Parallel to his musical career, he has explored writing, publishing collections of lyrics and poems. After a health incident in 2001, which led him to a period of reflection and recovery, Sabina continued to release works such as Dímelo en la calle (2002) and Alivio de luto (2005). His last solo album to date, Vinagre y rosas, released in 2009, had a notable commercial reception.
