The story behind
Pagan Baby, according to DoReSol
The song Pagan Baby by Creedence Clearwater Revival was born from a moment of improvisation in the studio. John Fogerty presented the idea to the band, and they immediately joined in. After less than an hour of rehearsal, they recorded it in a single take. This spontaneous approach, where the band let themselves be carried away by the music, is one of the keys to their sound. The piece, with a duration of 6:25, was arranged by John Fogerty and the mix was handled by Russ Gary, with John Fogerty also as producer.
This track is part of the album Pendulum, released in 1970. It was the second album Creedence Clearwater Revival released that year, following Cosmo's Factory. The recording of Pendulum took place at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco and required a month, a considerably long time for the band. Before the sessions, there was a meeting where Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford expressed their desire for greater creative participation. Although the intention was to experiment and play freely, no new compositions emerged from this methodology.
