The story behind
Miss Ann, according to DoReSol
Miss Ann is one of those songs that sounds like pure fire from the first chord. It's not just the fast-paced rhythm or Little Richard's voice that sticks in your ear, but that mix of urgency and joy that seems to come from a live stage, as if time had stopped in the middle of a concert. The piano sounds like hammer blows, the drums drive forward with relentless energy, and the lyrics —simple, catchy— work like a call to the dance floor. There's no room for doubt: this is pure rock and roll, unfiltered.
Recorded in a single take, Miss Ann was born in October 1951, when Richard Wayne Penniman (better known as Little Richard) was still trying to define his sound. By then, he had already spent years on the circuit, but it was in that session where the controlled chaos of his style found its definitive form. The album it appeared on, Comenzó, wasn't meant to be a massive hit, but to capture the essence of what was to come: a rock and roll that broke with everything heard up to that point. And boy, did it succeed.
