The story behind
Little Girl Big World, according to DoReSol
This song doesn’t sound like just any track. From the first few seconds, the bass and guitar intertwine in a rhythm that feels effortlessly made for movement, as if reggae-pop had found its most direct version. It’s not just the catchy melody that sets it apart, but that blend of freshness and confidence that makes every chord sound natural, as if it had always been there. What’s curious is that, despite its apparent simplicity, the track achieves something uncommon: it stays in your head without wearing out, even after listening to it over and over again.
The band behind this, Magic!, emerged in Canada with a clear idea: to mix the relaxed groove of reggae with the pop already playing on the radio. In 2013, their first single, Rude, took them to the top in Australia and New Zealand, and to a prominent spot in Canada. But Little Girl Big World isn’t just another song in their repertoire: it was born at a time when the band already knew exactly what sound they wanted to pursue. They recorded it as part of an album that didn’t yet have a name, but which already included tracks like No Way No and Let Your Hair Down. They signed with Sony Music Entertainment and even collaborated with Shakira on Cut Me Deep for their 2014 album. Here, however, there are no collaborations: just the band, their energy, and that rhythm that invites you to hum along without overthinking it.
