Light Years

When you dive into Light Years, you encounter a track that invites movement, one that blends the energy of funk with touches of house and hip-hop, without losing its particular essence. The song, written by Jay Kay and Toby Smith, was released in 1994 as part of the album The Return of the Space Cowboy. Although its release as a single in February 1995 did not place it in the top positions of the UK Singles Chart, it did find fertile ground in the United States. There, thanks to remixes by David Morales included in the physical edition, it reached the sixth spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. The version that reaches us lasts around 3:59 in its radio edit, but the full album version extends to 5:53, offering more space for its groove.

The recording of The Return of the Space Cowboy began in the first half of 1994, a period of high productivity for Jamiroquai following the success of their debut album. This second work consolidated the British band, which was already a reference in the international funk and acid jazz scene. The group's name, a fusion of the Iroquois tribe and the concept of "jamming", reflects that search for identity and musical improvisation.
