The story behind
The extended version of Let's Go Crazy, at seven minutes and thirty-five seconds, invites immersion into an energy that goes beyond the dance floor. It's an invitation to explore the layers of a sound that Prince Rogers Nelson, known simply as Prince, had been forging since the mid-80s. This track, in its special format, becomes a sonic canvas where the artist unfolds his ability to fuse genres, creating what has been called the "Minneapolis sound".
This particular style, which Prince began to outline from his third work, Dirty Mind, and which was consolidated in 1981 with Controversy, not only defined his career but also influenced other artists, as can be seen in the debut album of The Time. It was in 1984, with the release of Purple Rain and the eponymous film, that Prince reached a peak of recognition, selling millions of copies in the United States and globally. Songs like When Doves Cry and the original Let's Go Crazy were fundamental in that explosion of popularity, catapulting him to superstar status. The impact of Purple Rain was such that it earned him a Grammy award and an Oscar for best original score.
