The story behind
The song Leave Your Man, with its 2 minutes and 33 seconds duration, is an example of the particular style that Prince Rogers Nelson cultivated. Born in 1958 in Minneapolis and passed away in 2016 in Chanhassen, this American artist was a key figure in music, exploring genres such as rock, soul, funk, and new wave. During the 1980s, he consolidated himself as an innovative force, eventually being considered the creator of the so-called "Minneapolis sound." This sonic identity began to take shape from his third album, Dirty Mind, and was defined in 1981 with Controversy, and was even reflected in the work of The Time. His moment of greatest recognition came with the 1984 album Purple Rain and the film of the same name, which included songs like When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy, catapulting him to worldwide fame.
Throughout his career, Prince also adopted the stage name Prince, but he experienced a period, between 1993 and 2000, in which he presented himself under an unpronounceable symbol, a phase that generated debate and led many to refer to him as "The artist formerly known as Prince." In the United States, his album sales exceeded 39.5 million, and globally, nearly 100 million. The song Purple Rain earned him an Oscar for best original score, and the album of the same name also received a Grammy Award.
