The story behind

La viajerita, according to DoReSol

When you immerse yourself in La viajerita, you encounter a piece that evokes the figure of the traveler, someone who arrives from afar with something to share. The name itself, Atahualpa Yupanqui, which in Quechua means "he who comes from distant lands to say something," already gives us a clue to the depth and origin of his music. Born as Héctor Roberto Chavero Aramburu in Juan A. de la Peña, in the Pergamino district, Argentina, his legacy transcends borders, reaching as far as Nîmes, France, where he passed away in 1992.

Atahualpa Yupanqui's work, a singer-songwriter, guitarist, poet, and writer, has become a pillar of Argentine folklore. His songs, such as La viajerita, have been performed by an impressive list of artists, from Mercedes Sosa and Víctor Jara to Andrés Calamaro and Divididos, demonstrating the universality and enduring nature of his message. In 1986, France recognized his cultural contribution by awarding him the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, a testament to the impact of his art beyond his homeland.
