The story behind
Juanita, according to DoReSol
This song starts with an air that doesn't sound like a disaster, but carries within it a story that hurts. The voice of Alex Lora moves between the everyday and the urgent, as if recounting an ordinary day in Mexico, until the landscape shatters. The opening riff gives no warning of what's to come: lyrics that stick in the memory without notice, with that mix of rawness and tenderness that makes the listener feel the weight of what is being told.
They recorded it in 1984, at a time when the band —then known as Three Souls in My Mind, but already signing as El Tri— sought a sound that reflected both their roots and the heavy atmosphere of the era. The song is not just a song: it is a sonic testimony of what happened in San Juanico that same year, when a gas tank explosion left an indelible mark. The album Simplemente —their official debut— came out that year, and while songs like Triste Cancion or Metro Balderas became anthems, this piece remained etched as a distinct moment: less epic than others, but just as necessary.
