The story behind
When you dive into Journey to Arnhemland, you encounter a piece that takes you straight to the heart of the sound that Jamiroquai was crafting. It's one of the songs that make up The Return of the Space Cowboy, their second album, a record that meant a great boost for the band and reached second place on the UK album charts. The duration of this particular song is 5:23, a sonic journey that invites you to explore.
The recording sessions for this album began in the first half of 1994, driven by the previous success of Emergency on Planet Earth and the energy of the tours. Jay Kay himself, the leader and vocalist, was in charge of the arrangements and also the production of Journey to Arnhemland. Jamiroquai, formed in 1992 in London, established themselves from the outset as a benchmark for international funk, leading the acid jazz movement alongside other names like Brand New Heavies and Incognito. Their proposal was a renewal of funk for the nineties, fusing the style with touches of disco and electronic music, and nuances that evoke musical improvisation, hence the union of "Jam" with "Iroquois" to form their name.
