The story behind

Indian Gin & Whisky Dry, according to DoReSol

In the track Indian Gin & Whisky Dry, the Bee Gees present a sound that, although brief at two minutes long, condenses a particular energy. The recording featured John Pantry as engineer and production shared between the Bee Gees themselves and Robert Stigwood. This song is part of the album Idea, released in August 1968, a work that achieved worldwide sales of over one million copies and was presented in mono and stereo editions in the UK. The cover art for the Polydor edition, by Wolfgang Heilemann, showed a beehive-shaped neon lightbulb with a photo of the group at its base. On the other hand, the North American ATCO version, with art by Klaus Voormann, featured a head composed of the faces of each member.

This album, Idea, marked the third international release from brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, who were born on the Isle of Man and spent their early years in Manchester before moving to Australia in the late fifties. It was in Redcliffe, Queensland, where they began their musical journey, achieving their first Australian chart success with Spicks and Specks. Following this achievement, they returned to the UK in January 1967, at which point Robert Stigwood began to promote their international projection. The distinctiveness of the Bee Gees lay in their instantly recognizable three-part vocal harmonies. Robin's distinctive vibrato characterized their early hits, while Barry's falsetto became established as their signature sound in later stages. The brothers not only wrote their own songs but also composed and produced for other artists, accumulating estimated sales of over 220 million records throughout their career.
