The story behind

If It’s Magic, according to DoReSol

The song If It's Magic, with its 3:12 duration, emerges from a crucial moment in Stevie Wonder's career. Released in 1976, the album Songs in the Key of Life represented the culmination of an extraordinary creative period that had begun in 1972 with Music of My Mind. By 1974, Wonder was already an established figure in popular music, with a string of critical successes such as Music of My Mind (1972), Talking Book (1972), Innervisions (1973), and Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974). However, in March 1975, he was on the verge of abandoning the music industry and moving to Ghana to help children with disabilities. Preparations for a farewell concert had even begun, but Wonder changed his mind.

In this context, If It's Magic was arranged and produced by Stevie Wonder himself, who once again demonstrated his versatility by mastering multiple instruments, including the piano, harmonica, and keyboard. Born Stevland Hardaway Judkins in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1950, and known artistically as Stevie Wonder, his career at the Motown record label has been exceptional. Despite being blind since childhood, he became one of the most successful and recognized artists, selling over 100 million records and accumulating 22 Grammy Awards. His ability to compose, produce, and play various instruments, such as drums, bass, and congas, has been highlighted by critics as a testament to his musical genius.
