The story behind
Heart of Stone, according to DoReSol
The song Heart of Stone, with its duration of 3:47, is a piece that fits into the sound of Europe, specifically within their third studio album, The Final Countdown.
This album, released in 1986, was a turning point for the Swedish band, achieving notable commercial success. The production of The Final Countdown was a complex process, involving four different studios spread across Europe and the United States. The recording sessions took place from September 1985 to March 1986, passing through locations such as Powerplay Studios in Zurich, Soundtrade in Stockholm, Mastersound in Atlanta, and Fantasy in Berkeley. The production and mixing work was led by Kevin Elson, who already had experience working with bands like Journey and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The final mix of Heart of Stone was a collaboration between Wally Buck and Kevin Elson.
The band Europe, originally from Upplands Väsby, Stockholm, was formed in 1979 under the name Force. Its founders were vocalist Joey Tempest and guitarist John Norum. The band's sound, which blended elements of heavy metal and hard rock, was often associated with the glam metal of the late 80s. The album The Final Countdown, in particular, became the group's biggest commercial success, surpassing three million copies sold in the United States alone and over ten million worldwide. The album managed to place two works in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart, and two of its singles, The Final Countdown and Carrie, reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. After a hiatus that began in 1992, the band officially reunited in 2003, continuing their musical journey.
