The story behind

The story behind Fairies Wear Boots has several layers, and it seems even the musicians themselves are not entirely sure of its origin. On one hand, it is said that Ozzy Osbourne wrote the lyrics after a group of skinheads in London called him "fairy" because of his long hair. However, bassist Geezer Butler also mentioned that Ozzy's lyrics often veered into unexpected themes, and that the second part of the song was about LSD. Osbourne himself, in the same 2010 documentary, claimed to have written the lyrics about LSD, although in his 2010 autobiography he admitted not remembering exactly what it was about.

This piece, which is part of Black Sabbath's album Paranoid, was recorded in 1970. The album, released in the UK in September 1970 and in the United States in January 1971, was completed quickly, needing only a few days in June for its recording. Paranoid is the second studio album by the British heavy metal band and contains several of their best-known tracks. The song Fairies Wear Boots was released as the B-side of the single After Forever in 1971. Originally, on some 1970 US copies of the album Paranoid, the song's intro appeared under the title Jack the Stripper, forming part of "Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots". A live version of the song, recorded for the BBC's John Peel show on April 26, 1970, was included on a bonus disc of a 1997 Ozzy Osbourne compilation.
