The story behind
Dio mio no, according to DoReSol
Lucio Battisti wrote Dio mio no as part of an Album called Amore e non amore. The song was released in 1971, along with another called Era, which had already been on another single before. The single's cover shows a miniature of the cover of the Album, taken by the photographer Silvio Nobili.
The song tells the story of a man who invites a girl to dinner. While he prepares and cooks, he feels nervous and doubts. At the end, when she arrives, she looks at him while he eats, then goes to sleep and comes back in pajamas. The end of the song has an urgent tone, as if there is something more going on between them.
The song was censored by the RAI for a phrase that was considered explicit. The lyrics describe a situation of desire and confusion, without being direct. The song stood out for its place in the Album, where it is situated between songs that talk about non-love relationships.
