The story behind
Cotidiano, according to DoReSol
The song Cotidiano, released in 1971, is a piece that integrates into the album Construção by Chico Buarque. This record, conceived between his exile in Italy and his return to Brazil, is characterized by lyrics that directly address the tensions of the military regime, touching on themes such as censorship and the country's social situation. While Construção features more personal compositions like Valsinha and Minha História, Cotidiano contributes to the bolder expression of social criticism that Buarque began to manifest during this stage of his career.
Over the years, Cotidiano has resonated in different contexts. In 1979, it was part of the soundtrack of the telenovela Como Salvar Meu Casamento, serving as its opening theme. Later, in 1999, singer Arnaldo Antunes recorded a version for a project by Almir Chediak, dedicated to compiling Chico Buarque's work in a series of albums. By 2003, DJ Marcelinho da Lua collaborated with Seu Jorge for a new interpretation that, in 2004, received the MTV Video Music Brasil award in the category of best electronic music video.
