The story behind
Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self, according to DoReSol
In *Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self*, P!nk addresses the younger, angrier version of herself. The lyrics serve as a reminder to that teenager that things will eventually work out and that, deep down, she should just allow herself to be a child. The song, which runs for 3:50, was written by Billy Mann and P!nk herself, with production handled by Billy Mann.
The album it belongs to, I'm Not Dead, released in 2006, marked a turning point in the career of Alecia Beth Moore, known professionally as P!nk. After her beginnings with the R&B group Choice and her successful solo debut in 2000 with Can't Take Me Home, which included the single "There You Go" reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, P!nk underwent a shift with Missundaztood in 2001. This album, leaning more toward pop rock, became a major commercial and critical success, selling roughly 13 million copies and producing hits like "Get the Party Started" and "Just Like a Pill". While Try This (2003) didn’t reach the same sales figures, it did earn her a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Trouble". With I'm Not Dead, P!nk reaffirmed her sound and connection with her audience.
