The story behind

Cant Help Falling in Love, according to DoReSol

The melody of *Can't Help Falling in Love* has deep roots, inspired by "Plaisir d'amour," a French love piece composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. Composers Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss took that foundation and transformed it, publishing it under the name Gladys Music, Inc. Interestingly, the original idea for the lyrics was conceived from a woman's perspective, thinking of "Can't Help Falling in Love with Him," which explains why the first and third lines end with "in" instead of rhyming with "you".

Elvis Presley recorded this melody for the 1961 album Blue Hawaii, which was the soundtrack to the film of the same name. Although, according to George Weiss, neither the film's producers nor Elvis's entourage were convinced by the initial demo, the artist insisted on including it. The recording took place on March 23, 1961, at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. This performance became a hit, reaching number one in the UK for four weeks in 1962 and achieving Platinum certification in the United States. In his live career, Presley often closed his shows with this song, with his performance in the 1968 television special and the 1973 global concert *Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite* being particularly memorable. It was, in fact, the last song he performed live on June 26, 1977, in Indianapolis. Over the years, the song has been reinterpreted by numerous artists and has appeared in various collections and reissues, such as in Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3 (1997) or ELV1S: 30 No. 1 Hits (2002).
