The story behind

The piece African Rock, with its duration of 3:21, emerges as a sonic example of Prince's musical exploration. While not one of his most widely distributed tracks, it encapsulates the essence of his creativity, especially in the context of developing what is known as the "Minneapolis sound." This style, which Prince began to outline from his third album, Dirty Mind, and which solidified in 1981's Controversy, is characterized by a bold fusion of rock, soul, and funk. The influence of this sonic proposal became palpable even on the debut album of The Time, a band that shared part of that musical scene.

Prince Rogers Nelson, born in Minneapolis in 1958 and passed away in Chanhassen in 2016, was a multifaceted artist who mastered singing, songwriting, and a large number of instruments. Throughout his career, he explored genres such as rock, soul, funk, and new wave. During the 1980s, he positioned himself as a key and avant-garde figure in the music industry. His album Purple Rain, released in 1984, along with the eponymous film, marked a peak in his popularity, bringing songs like When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy to global success. The track Purple Rain earned him an Oscar for Best Original Song Score, and the album was also recognized with a Grammy.
