Sebastián Yatra doesn’t need long introductions when Traicionera plays on the radio: the song took him from being a songwriter recording demos in Miami to a name everyone hums across Latin America. His signature isn’t pure reggaeton nor sugary pop, but a blend where clean guitars intertwine with rhythms that move the hips, and where lyrics speak of love without falling into empty clichés. From the start, his approach has been to balance tradition with modernity, using piano and guitar as tools to craft melodies that sound just as good in a bar in Medellín as they do at a party in Ibiza.

The leap didn’t come with a full album, but with a track many thought was an accident: El psicólogo, his first promotional single in 2013, sneaked into the charts of Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador without waiting for anyone’s permission. Recorded between Miami and Malibu, with a music video featuring endless beaches and an indie film vibe, the song proved it could sound fresh without sacrificing its essence. But while many would have repeated the formula, he chose to take risks. In 2015, when No me llames —a collaboration with Alkilados and Mike Bahía— spent eight weeks in Colombia’s Top 20, it didn’t just confirm his place in the scene; it also used that platform to take his music to bigger stages, from Mexico City to the EXA Festivals in Texas.
