More about Pedro Capó
Biography
His album Fuego y Amor (2005) was his debut, but it didn’t achieve the impact he sought. However, the 2007 relaunch with Sony Music gave him another chance, though he remained just another name in the scene. Everything changed in 2018 when he released Calma, a track that, in its original version, already sounded fresh but not explosive. The turning point came when Farruko joined the remix: suddenly, the video surpassed two billion views on YouTube, and the song became his first major mass success. It wasn’t planned; instead, the combination of his catchy melodies and Farruko’s flow found the exact moment in pop culture.
That success led him to collaborations that transcended music. In 2017, he joined Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, and others in Almost Like Praying, a charity single to raise funds after Hurricane María. Later, in 2019, the Alicia Remix of Calma — alongside Alicia Keys and Farruko — proved his music could cross borders without losing its essence. And in 2020, Buena Suerte arrived as a solo single, without collaborations, but with the same confidence of someone who already knows what works.
Awards came after the hits. In 2013 and 2016, he won two ASCAP awards for songs like Fiebre de amor and La mordidita, but the most important recognition was the Latin Grammy in 2019: three trophies for Calma (original and remix) and for the documentary Pedro Capó: En letra de otro. These aren’t empty trophies, but confirmation that his music resonates beyond numbers. Today, when one of his songs plays, it’s not just the rhythm that sounds: it’s also the story of a musician who went from theater to the biggest stages, and who found in the guitar and in collaboration with other artists his best language.
