Omar Courtz

Omar Courtz sounds like those records you hear in a friend’s car without quite knowing why, but that end up stuck in your head. It’s not the typical reggaeton blasting on every corner nor the rawest trap in the scene, but something that blends soft melodies with that urban rhythm already trademarked by Puerto Rico. His music carries that air of background track that, however, doesn’t go unnoticed: the beats are clean, the arrangements don’t overdo it, and the lyrics flow naturally, as if each word had been tested out loud before being recorded.

The leap that took him from making tracks in his bedroom to rubbing shoulders with big names in the genre came with “En Su Nota”, that song that played nonstop during the 2020 lockdown. It wasn’t a planned hit, but rather the kind of track people start humming without realizing it. Then came the jump to the big leagues: in 2021, “Ten cuidado” — alongside Farruko, El Alfa, and Pitbull — entered the Billboard Hot Latin Songs charts, and from there he kept adding collaborations with artists of different styles. What’s interesting is that, despite working with established figures, his sound doesn’t dilute: he always keeps that essence of polished production and lyrics that don’t sound forced.

Biography

His debut album, Primera Musa, released in September 2024, is like a summary of everything he’s built so far. It’s not a record of radical experimentation, but a collection of songs that work just as well on the radio as in a personal playlist. It includes collaborations with names like Rauw Alejandro, Bryant Myers, and Kendo Kaponi, but what’s most surprising is how that track with De la Rose, “Qué Vas A Hacer Hoy”, managed to break into over ten countries without needing a marketing push. The album reached number 1 in Spain and second place on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart — something in the genre that usually means the public adopted it without resistance. He didn’t aim to be the loudest, but the one that sounds good even when the volume is low.
