Biography

His connection with music dates back to childhood. His mother was an important figure, gifting him his first Walkman with music by The Beatles and teaching him to play the guitar. This early influence was complemented by the exploration of his country's folk music, something that has always kept him tied to his roots. After moving to Ecuador and then returning to Colombia, where he entered the Naval Academy in Cartagena, he discovered his inclination for composing. A period in London allowed him to study Political Science and, at the same time, play in the streets, which led him to collaborate with local musicians. Finally, in 1992, he arrived in Miami, where he completed his studies and, along with André Lópes and José Javier Freire, brought Bacilos to life. The band released albums such as Bacilos (2000), Caraluna (2002), and Sin vergüenza (2004), consolidating themselves with hits that are still heard today. After the band's separation in 2007, Jorge Villamizar took some time to then launch his solo project, a self-titled album that came out in 2008, featuring production by Richard Blair and the participation of musicians like Chucho Merchán.
