Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five

From the heart of the South Bronx in 1978, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five emerged, a collective that laid the foundation for the sound of Hip Hop. Their approach stood out for the innovative use of turntablism and breakbeat DJing techniques, combined with lyrics aimed at connecting with social reality. In their early days, they made a name for themselves at parties and live events, building a solid reputation in the local scene.

The year 1982 marked a turning point with the release of The Message, both as a single and an album. This work transcended entertainment to offer a political and social commentary, becoming a fundamental driving force for the development of conscious Hip Hop. Shortly after, in 1983, the group experienced a split that lasted until a reunion in 1987, from which their second album, On the Strength, emerged. After this period, the original lineup disbanded for good.
