Danilo Montero

Danilo Montero did not start in Christian music due to family tradition, but because of an encounter that changed him at the age of 13 or 14. A group invited him to a healing campaign at Oasis de Esperanza in San José, and that night he decided to surrender to Christ. It wasn’t a leap of faith: shortly after, his entire family embraced the same faith, and Pastor Raúl Vargas noticed in him a gift for leading worship. Thus, Danilo went from being a curious teenager to directing the singing in the same church that would later be called Iglesia Oasis.

His sound is not limited to one style: it blends the freshness of traditional hymns with harmonies that invite intimacy. In Sígueme, the ministry he founded, music was not just accompaniment, but a bridge for the congregation to connect with the divine. More than songs, they were tools to create spaces where worship could flow naturally. This approach—less polished production, more authenticity—ended up defining his mark on the scene.

Biography

In La Carta Perfecta (2014), this DNA translated into an album that did not aim to sound like a church choir, but like a dialogue between the human and the sacred. The record not only resonated in Latin America, but crossed borders: it won a Latin Grammy and was nominated for the GMA Dove Awards, something uncommon for productions in this genre. But his greatest achievement was another: proving that Christian music could be universal without losing its essence.

Then came Mi Viaje (2018), recorded to celebrate three decades of ministry. This time, the project included a live version with Thalles Roberto, capturing the energy of a performance in Houston, where Danilo has led the Hispanic ministry of Lakewood since 2012. It wasn’t just another album: it was a testament to how his voice—the voice of a man who began directing choirs in a Costa Rican temple—ended up guiding thousands on another continent.
