Big Boy

Big Boy, whose real name is Gustavo Roy Díaz Sierra, is a Puerto Rican artist who has left a significant mark on Latin hip hop. His sound is characterized by the fusion of rhythms ranging from reggae to rap, being one of the pioneers in bringing these genres to Puerto Rico's music scene. Throughout his career, he has worked with influences from Panamanian artists, contributing to the evolution of a style that feels authentic and fresh. Songs like "Mis ojos lloran por ti" not only catapulted him to fame but also marked a milestone in the interpretation of Panamanian plena by a Puerto Rican artist.

His career began in 1993 with the release of his album Mr. Big, which included the hit single "Donde están", an adaptation in Spanish of Cutty Ranks' classic "Six million ways to die". This album had an immediate impact, selling 150,000 copies in just two months and establishing Big Boy as a prominent figure in urban music of the time. Each song on this album comes with an official music video, reflecting the attention given to the visual production of his music.

More about Big Boy

Biography

In 1995, he released Que vayas con Dios, a work that addressed deep themes such as loss and grief, generating controversy in countries like El Salvador and Honduras due to its use by criminal groups. His success continued with the album Mis Ojos Lloran por ti in 1996, where the song of the same name became a worldwide phenomenon, reaching position 18 on the Top Latin Songs. Despite other notable singles like "Voz sensual", none matched the popularity of this hit. A dramatic turn in his life occurred that same year when he was involved in a car accident, inspiring the song "He chocado con la vida", released in 1997. His 2003 album The Phenomenon was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, solidifying his place in the history of rap and Spanish-language hip hop. Although he is currently semi-retired, Big Boy remains an influential figure in urban music, occasionally performing in Latin America and the United States.
