About the album

Point of Know Return, according to DoReSol

This work was recorded in two different studios: Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville and In the Country Studio in Bogalusa, Louisiana. During the sessions, there were internal tensions, especially with vocalist Steve Walsh, who temporarily left the group. However, his return allowed the recording to continue and be completed. The album was mixed in Los Angeles, giving it a distinctive touch to its sound.

Among the most notable songs is Dust in the Wind, an acoustic ballad that, despite the band not being known for this style, became their biggest hit. This song, which originated from a guitar exercise by Kerry Livgren, was well-received and helped solidify Kansas's place in the history of classic rock. Another notable track is the one that gives the album its name, Point of Know Return, which remains popular on radio stations. The mix of complex melodies and deep lyrics characterizes the sound of the record, which reached number four on the Billboard 200 in January 1978.

The commercial impact of Point of Know Return was significant, as it achieved multi-platinum certifications in the United States and platinum in Canada, selling millions of copies. This album marked a milestone in Kansas's career, taking them to perform on major stages like Madison Square Garden, where their popularity soared. Additionally, the 2002 and 2008 reissues included additional tracks, further expanding its legacy. The story behind this album reflects not only the band's musical evolution but also the challenges they faced on their path to success.
