Bésame mucho

Consuelo Velázquez, born in Ciudad Guzmán, Jalisco, in 1916, was a prominent figure in Mexican music, recognized both for her skill as a concert pianist and her talent as a composer. She took her first steps in the world of music at a very young age, showing remarkable ease with the piano. At the age of six, she was already immersed in musical studies in Guadalajara. Her training continued until, at 19, she moved to Mexico City to further refine her studies. At 22, she earned a degree as a concert pianist and music teacher, culminating her education with a concert at the prestigious Palace of Fine Arts. Her career as a concert pianist led her to become a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra and the philharmonic orchestra of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Additionally, she had the opportunity to take advanced piano classes with the acclaimed Claudio Arrau, earning first place in her group.

Her earliest musical creations, in her own words, were "songs for a friend."
